As they are walking down the street they both notice a tramp slumped on the curb slightly ahead of them. As they get close and begin to pass Aidan chucks him some change. Mason stops and stares at the tramp. Aidan looks at him incredulously as he thinks this look a little weird. As Masons stare continues three translucent figures shimmer into view around the tramp. They are clearly ghosts and around Mason the Buddha orchid flares into view but only faintly. The ghostly figures all look shocked and alarmed and the tramp responds to their distress. “No wait!” he exclaims, “Leave them alone. They are my friends!” The three ghosts all cower behind the tramp who has stood up and his wailing his arms around at Mason. “But they are feeding off you” Mason says slightly confused. “They only friends I got” the tramp responds. Aidan stands back from the scene with his usual look of bewilderment and the weirdness of it all. He has his hands deeply thrust into his parka coat and is trying to look casual and not be noticed, and is failing miserably. Mason looks around at him for a moment and then looks deeply at the tramp then glares at the ghosts. He notices that the three ghost all look in a similar state of dishevelment and he realises that they must also have been tramps and may well have once actually been this tramps friends. He looks back to the tramp and holding his eye contact with a serious look he then quietly says, “If you are clean and presentable, then the man in the chip shop will always feed you.” He then gestures towards the ghosts and says “You will have to help him” They all shuffle and nod and agree silently and gesture thanks to Mason as the Buddha Orchid slowly fades out of sight. Mason leans over towards the bewildered tramp and puts a hand on his shoulder and says, “Take care of yourself, Joe.” He then turns and gestures towards Aidan and they walk away.
